Why Greece

Figures below are for the 2026–27 intake, from published institutional and government sources. Check them yourself.

Greece is not a compromise destination. It is a legitimate route to a British or American degree, inside the EU, at a total cost most families can actually plan for.

  1. Study entirely in English

Private colleges in Athens and Thessaloniki deliver full UK and US degree programmes in English under franchise and validation agreements. You are taught in Greece; the certificate is issued by the awarding university.

  2. Spend far less to get there

Indicative undergraduate tuition starts around €6,750 a year, against £16,000–£38,000 for international students in the UK, before living costs that run roughly double.

  3. Build a life inside the EU

A Greek student residence permit is a Schengen residence permit. You can travel across 29 Schengen countries and work up to 20 hours a week in term time with the right registrations.

Where you would live

Three cities, three quite different years

The students who settle fastest are the ones who knew what they were walking into. So we talk about rent contracts, tax numbers and homesickness as seriously as entry requirements. Living in Greece · Their history, briefly

Athens

The capital, and most of the colleges

Most English-taught programmes are here. Big-city rents, but the widest choice of courses and part-time work.

Thessaloniki

A student city by the sea

Greece's second city, with a large student population and a lower cost of living than Athens.

Island life, smaller cohort

Quieter and cheaper, with mild winters. A good fit if you want to be known by name.

How it works, step by step

Start eight to ten months before your intake if you can. Four months is still workable. Any less, and we will tell you to aim for the next intake rather than rush a visa file that is likely to be refused.

  1. Week 1 · Free

    An honest first conversation

You tell us your grades, your English level and your budget. We tell you which routes are realistic and which are not. Some people decide not to study in Greece. That is a good outcome too.

  2. Weeks 2–4

    Shortlist and compare

Three or four programmes side by side: awarding university, real annual cost, entry requirements, accreditation, and what graduates of that route tend to do next.

  3. Weeks 4–8

    Application and offer

Transcripts, personal statement, references, English evidence. We prepare the file properly the first time, because a resubmission can cost you a whole intake.

  4. Allow 1–3 months

    The national D visa

Acceptance letter, proof of funds, health insurance, accommodation evidence, an apostilled and translated criminal record certificate. This stage fails on paperwork, not merit, so we are pedantic about it.

  5. Before departure

    Housing and arrival plan

Where to live, what a Greek rental contract commits you to, what to budget for month one, and how to avoid the deposit scams that target new international students.

  6. First weeks in Greece

    Residence permit and settling in

Apply for your residence permit, register for AFM and AMKA, open a bank account, and get academic support in place before the first deadline lands.

“A student placed on the wrong course is not a placement. It is a problem with a two-year delay built into it.”
  • We will say no. If a programme or the timing is wrong for you, we say so before you pay anyone anything.
  • We teach, too. English, IELTS, IGCSE, A Levels, maths and physics tutoring, delivered in-house.

Handoff note — remove before launch This section is intentionally left unpopulated. Testimonials must be real, attributable and permitted by the student in writing. Replace the three quotes below with genuine ones (first name, country, programme, year), then delete this notice. Inventing testimonials is both a consumer-protection risk and the fastest way to lose a family's trust when they check.

Straight answers

The questions families ask first

Usually some version of: is this degree real, and what is the catch? Both are fair questions.

All questions

Yes — when the programme is delivered under a validation or franchise agreement, the awarding university issues its own degree certificate, identical to the one issued on its home campus. Your transcript records the teaching institution. What you must check, every time, is the specific agreement for the specific programme: ask which university awards it, and confirm it directly on that university's own website, not only on the college's. We do this check for every programme we put in front of you, and we will show you where to verify it yourself.
For undergraduate entry, typically IELTS 6.0 with no component below 5.5, or an accepted equivalent such as PTE Academic 50+ or Cambridge English at B2. Postgraduate entry is usually 6.0–6.5. Foundation routes can accept around IELTS 4.5. If you are half a band short, that is a teaching problem with a timeline, not a closed door — and it happens to be exactly what we specialise in.
Non-EU students holding a valid student residence permit may work up to 20 hours per week during term time. You will need an AFM (tax number) and AMKA (social security number), and the employment must be formally registered. Full-time work may be possible during official holidays — confirm with the Migration Office. Be realistic: part-time earnings in Greece will support your living costs at the margin. They will not fund your tuition, and migration authorities do monitor academic progress when you renew.
The first conversation and your shortlist cost you nothing. Where we receive a placement commission from an institution, we will tell you which institutions those are before you apply, so you can weigh our advice accordingly. Tutoring and exam preparation are charged separately and quoted up front. If anyone in this industry refuses to answer this question plainly, treat that as the answer.
